On August 16, DCO was a very busy
place with over 50 volunteers on site for the 2001 Day of Caring. This important
annual event signals the beginning of the 2002 United Way of the Ozarks campaign.
Each year thousands of individuals from across the Ozarks take time out from
their jobs to contribute thousands of dollars worth of materials and labor
to perform hundreds of projects for the agencies on Day of Caring. The impact
of this day on the United Way agencies is tremendous in many ways. Most agencies
can't afford to have the work done, or even have the extra staff or time to
do so.
Perhaps more important, this day
signifies the beginning of the community coming together to keep their promise
to help their neighbors in difficult times. Without the support of the United
Way of the Ozarks, and the countless individuals who give of their time and
their dollars, we would not be able to do all that we do for the individuals
we serve. Nor would the 28 other United Way agencies receiving United Way
support.
Congratulations to John Rush, the
United Way staff, board of directors and campaign volunteers on another great
year and the Making Dreams Possible campaign.
