26th Annual
Bass Tourney
The 26th Annual DCO Buddy Bass Tourney was held April 7th at Hwy. 13 Boatdock. This great event, sponsored by Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Marine, contributed approximately $6,000 to DCO's programs and services. *Special thanks to the Springfield Bass Club who put on this tourney each year for DCO.
Marines Discover Life Outside "Basic Training"
Captain Tom Przybelski and First Sergeant James C. Burnett are heading up the Community Affairs Program for the United States Marine Corps. In the Adopt-A-School program about five or six
service men make monthly visits to the Center to volunteer with our children. The Marines work in the classrooms entertaining children with stories about their uniforms and helping teachers with activities. A good deal of time is spent trying to keep the Marines' well-pressed hats out of the reach of little fingers. Recently, the Marines brought a fire truck for the children to explore and everyone was thrilled by the Hum-vee that came on May 16th. This past Christmas the Marines dropped off two jeep loads of toys from Toys for Tots, a program DCO has been a lucky recipient of for several years. Captain Pryzbelski reports that the Marines enjoy their visits to DCO. "It is important that we do a fair amount of community service. It is part of showing that the Marine Corps is involved in United States communities."
